At only 10 years of age, Joanna was already an accomplished actor. Her first professional work was in a TV commercial, the Natural Confectionary Company's "Chop It" campaign. She soon progressed to film and TV work and made her feature debut in Three Dollars (2005) alongside David Wenham and Frances O'Connor . It was for this role that Joanna was nominated for an AFI Award for Best Young Actor in 2005. That year she worked with Susan Sarandon and Sam Neill in Unwiderstehlich (2006).
